Director of Membership, BCS, Jone Orton, Director, Scienter, Theshantha Palliyaguru, Managing Director, Rajiva Witharana, Scienter, Chairman, ICTA, Prof. P.W. Epasinghe, Chairman, BCS Sri Lankan Sector, Dr. Gihan Wickramanayake, Manager Software, Scienter, Dinith Galappatthi and Manager Marketing, Scienter, Romesh Kandiah.

Scienter Technologies (Pte) Ltd. Won the Overall Gold Award and the Gold Award in the Tourism and Hospitality category at the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2009, at the Water’s Edge recently under the patronage Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama.

While participating at NBQSA for the very first time, a significant feature of the NBQSA Gold awarded to Scienter was that neither Silver nor Bronze awards were won in the “Tourism and Hospitality” Category, denoting the almost unrivalled competitive edge that Scienter’s Destinity Enterprise Solutions enjoy in the tourism and hospitality field.

This is the eleventh year of NBQSA; with as many as forty software firms participating in fourteen categories that included Finance, General, Industrial, R&D, Media and Entertainment, eGovernment and Services, Communications, Security, Tourism and Hospitality, Education and Training, and In-House and Tertiary Projects. This is a range of products that holds special significance for Sri Lanka in this “Year of IT and English”.

Windows 7 launched

Microsoft, launched the much awarded Windows 7, last month. Microsoft is currently offering six versions of Windows 7: Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, OEM and Enterprise.

The latest addition of Windows Operating System family breaks new ground in empowering users to leverage other existing applications on their machines, such as many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode while recovering data easily with automatic backups to home and business networks.

This is good news for users who would resent abandoning the features of the earlier applications in use. By allowing smoother integration, Microsoft has rendered the new operating system of Windows 7 more universal in its adaptability and therefore more appealing to both Windows fans and critics alike.

As one of Microsoft’s biggest customers in Sri Lanka, MAS has had a long association with the software giant, having incorporated almost all of Microsoft’s latest solutions into their network.
