He said that four flights will be operated for a week and will be
continued daily from Summer 2010.
The fifth, a freedom traffic flight between Colombo and the Maldives
will be operative from January 1, 2010. It is expected to bring more
tourists to Sri Lanka and promote business travellers coming to Sri
Lanka. It is scheduled to operate for passengers who intend traveling
for Hajji.
“We have also addressed the labour traffic to the Gulf and the Middle
East area and it is expected to load over 60 percent of the first
flight”, he said. Colombo and the Maldives is the 36th destination of
Oman Air and there are 19 aircraft flying to 32 destinations at present.
He said that it is expected to incorporate two more aircraft next
year adding to the present line of aircraft and increasing the number of
destinations to five, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, the Maldives and
Colombo.
Despite the effect of the economic recession, Oman Air has taken the
initiative to spend more capital to make the market vibrant. As a result
it could fly to more destinations enabling effective services, he said.
