Renown’s Fazal heading for Golden Boot Award :

Second stage concludes on schedule

Blue Star Sports Club entered the semi-finals of the Dialog Champions League when they overcame Sri Lanka Army one goal to nil on Sunday. The Blue Star SC from Kalutara and Don Bosco SC from Negombo qualified for the semi-finals from group ‘B’. The Kalutara team was in the lead before the interval 1 – 0 and they maintained that lead until the end of the game.

Meanwhile in the same group the leaders Don Bosco too had a good victory over New Youngs Sports Club three goals to one. The victory here for the Don Bosco team had no effect on reaching the semi-finals as they have qualified prior to this game and were right on top of the points table. Don Bosco team led at the half way mark two goals to one and went on to add another goal in the second session of the play too to seal the victory.

Police SC playing their last game in the round two defeated Negombo Youth SC 5 – 1 after leading 3 - 1. The loss here for the Negombo team took them out of the Champions League next season. This season was the worst season for the team from Negombo where they failed to live up to previous ratings. The game between Saunders SC and Jupiters SC which had no bearing on the result in finding the semi finalists ended in a one all draw.

The Old Bens team from Kotahena who played in Group ‘A’ will be demoted to the Premier League along with Negombo Youth SC from Group ‘B’ next season as they too could not be above the fifth position. Ratnam SC, Police SC the defending Champions, Saunders SC and Negombo Youth SC the teams that has won the title on previous occasions have not even reached the semi-finals this season.

M.N.M. Fazal one of the youngest players to play for the Renown Sports Club has come out as a great player this season. He has already outplayed all leading strikers to score 14 goal for his Club which definitely bring him the Golden Boot award this season.

Week end Results:

Group ‘A’ - Police beat Negombo Youth Sports Club 5 – 1

Saunders Sports Club drew with Jupiters Sports Club 1 – 1’

Group ‘B’ - Blue Star Sports Club beat Sri Lanka Army 1 – 0

Don Bosco Sports Club beat New Youngs Sports Club 3 – 1
