When one makes an effigy in clay it would crack when it dries or
would get washed away in the rain and similarly all the alliances the
UNP makes suffer the fate of a clay effigy, Plantation Industries and Up
Country Development Minister D.M. Jayaratna said at a press conference
held in the Ambuluwawa bio-diversity centre, Gampola yesterday.
Although the UNP was a political party with a considerable voter base
it was now allied itself with some political groups that have no voter
base in the country and the alliance would break up no sooner it was
formed, he said.
When one reviewed the results of the recent Provincial Council
election it would be seen that the UPFA polled 5.1 million votes while
the opposition parties polled only 3 million votes giving the UPFA a
clear majority of 2.1 million votes.
In all future elections, similar results would be achieved, Jayaratna
said.
The people felt deeply in their hearts about the liberation of the
country from terrorism by the bold policy of President Mahinda Rajapaksa
as four previous leaders who ruled the country could not defeat
terrorism. Any common candidate that the opposition party may field for
the Presidential election had no chance of winning against President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, he also said. |
