Java Lane beat Pelicans 1-0 enters final

Premier League Division I:

Java Lane Sports Club from Slave Island who travelled to Kurunegala to play the semi-final against Pelicans SC came out as victors and entered the final of the Premier League, beating the home team Pelicans Sports Club.

Java Lane SC entered the fray as underdogs for this game as Pelicans SC had the home advantage. The Slave Island soccerites played hard and found the net in the 37th minute through a header from Maxie Leitan. Leitan received a good ball from Nagur Meena and Leitan made no mistake with the header to baffle the Kurunegala custodian and gave his team the most wanted lead.

After the turn around Pelicans SC did all possible to find the equaliser but failed to achieve this and had to concede victory to Java Lane SC.

This Saturday the final will be staged at the City Football League ground between Java Lane SC and Kalutara Park SC at 3.30 p.m.

The final could be a very interesting affair with host Java Lane SC having a slight advantage as they play in their home den.

But the Kalutara team too is a well knit outfit and will come prepared to face any situation and to go home with the trophy. These two teams entry into the final gave the opportunity for both teams to play in the Dialog Champions League next season.
