Police investigate death of hunter

Matale police started investigations into the death of a person among a group of hunters who was reported to have died of gunshot injuries on Sunday at a jungle in Yatawatte, Matale.

The person who died was identified as W.D. Gunatilaka (50), a resident of Dodangaslanda, police said.

A group of six persons had entered the jungle at Yatawatte on Sunday and some in the group had gone in one direction while Gunatilaka had taken another direction.

After some time the group of hunters had heard a gunshot and had come in the direction of the report when they had found, Gunatilaka lying dead with injuries on a stone in the jungle, the group had told police.

Police said it was not clear whether the person had committed suicide or was shot at by another person.
