Large scale forgery racket busted

Police have taken into custody two individuals from Modera accused of
being involved in a large scale forgery racket. They also have seized a
large number of falsified documents which were in their possession.
This includes forged birth certificates, educational certificates,
business registrations, vehicle registrations\insurance\licenses,
Passport copies, GS Certificates, Identity Card copies, a large number
of Passport size pictures and a hand drawn map of the Colombo city.
In addition, the Police also has taken into custody Rs. 560,100 which
was in their possession at the time of arrest.
A Police team from Modera had detected these documents from one of
the houses in the area during a search operation.
During a search of a rented house in the Ibbagewatta, Police had
found 21 passports.
Later it was revealed that one of the two occupants had a forged
identity card in his possession and subsequent investigations led to the
unearthing of a large number of forged documents, the Police said.
The person who had rented the house has been identified as a resident
of Jaffna.
Police are conducting further investigations. |
