Early warning tower tested

The Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka through its district coordinating unit, tested its early warning tower established in Sainthamaruthu in the Ampara district on of National Safety Day, October 29.

District Coordinator of DMC (Disaster Management Centre) for Ampara district A. S. M. Ziyath said six districts have early warning systems established, and each tower was tested to mark the day.

He said in the Ampara district alone, there are seven early warning towers established in different locations to alert the people in the coastal area.

These locations are Kalmunai, Sainthamaruthu, Karaitivu, Nintavur, Thirukkovil and Pottuvil.
