Pilgrims Rest for Sanchi
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena commemorated the 2550th anniversary of the Buddha Jayanti by
laying the foundation stone for the Sanchi Pilgrims Rest.
This building, which has been constructed by the National Physical
Planning Department at a cost of Rs. 84m with the collaboration of the
Mahabodhi Society, Chief Incumbent of the Caitagiri Vihara, Sanchi Ven
Banagala Upatissa Thera with the cooperation of the Indian Government
and the Public Works Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, as Three-storeyed
structure with an area of 1,200 m2.
It includes an image chamber, a sermon hall, rooms for pilgrims,
sitting room and bathrooms, a kitchen sanitary facilities and open
halls.
The Vandana Niketana will be opened by Prime Minister Ratnasiri
Wickramanayaka on 31st October at 10.00 a.m.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Rameshwar Thakur, Madhya Pradesh Chief
Minister Shri Shivaraj Singh Chauhan, Madhya Pradesh Culture and Public
Relations Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma will participate at the
ceremony.
