Kandamby, Kaushal in Test squad

The national cricket selectors yesterday called up two uncapped players Thilina Kandamby and Kaushal Silva in their Test squad for the forthcoming tour of India.

Stylish left hander Kandamby and wicketkeeper-batsman Kaushal Silva have performed well in limited-over matches in the recent past and have been rewarded for their consistency in the domestic scene.

In addition the national selectors also named all rounders Chinthaka Jayasinghe and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara in their Twenty20 squad.

In fact Pushpakumara has scored 241 runs in 18 domestic Twenty20 matches at a splendid strike rate of 106.

The off spinner has also captured a total of 26 wickets and returns to the national squad after having failed to play a single game on a tour to South Africa in 2000.

Thirty one year old Chinthaka Jayasinghe has a magnificent strike rate of 135 in a 22-match domestic Twenty20 career.

Meanwhile left arm fast bowler Chanaka Welegedera has also won a recall to the Test squad after spending two years in the international wilderness.

However opener Malinda Warnapura and middle order batsman Chamara Kapugedera have been left out of the squad.

The national selectors also recalled fast bowler Dilhara Fernando to the one day squad after returning from injury and taking the place of Dhammika Prasad. The tour starts with a three-day practice match against an Indian All-Star XI on November 11 followed by three tests, five one day internationals and two Twenty20 games.
