Seminar on Hajj

The Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran will hold a seminar on Hajj on November 3 at the Hotel Ranmuthu Colombo 3 from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Religious Affairs Minister Pandu Bandaranayaka MP, Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzi, Western Province Governor Seyed Alavi Moulana,and prominent scholars and diplomats will speak.


Students hospitalised after sudden illness

Nearly 57 students attached to Shasana Chandra Vidyalaya, Ella, Galle fell suddenly ill and admitted to Elpitiya district hospital on October 22.

The cause of this sickness has yet to be ascertained while hospital authorities along with PHIs are continuing investigations into the incident.


Imantha needs your help

Imantha Sandeepa Madushan, 12, has been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease complicated with Portal Hypertension, Cirrhosis and Oesophageal Varices.

At the age of seven he developed haematemesis and melaena which had been continuing. He is on liver failure regime and has undergone sclerotherapy on five occasions.

Official’s of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, India have recommended a liver transplantation. This treatment modality is not yet available in Sri Lanka. This would cost US Dollars 37,000 with a stay in India for three months.

The child’s parents are unable to afford this and request for public help. Contributions can be deposited in the following bank accounts,

Kaju Sewana to be set up

The Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation is planning to start a cashew plantation in 100 acres of land in the Hambantota district and would establish a cashew restaurant, cashew sales centre and cashew nursery in Mirijjawila, said Cashew Corporation Vice Chairman Priyanath M. Piyadasa. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the "Kaju Sewana" was held recently.
