Excise raids net in Rs 5.8 m

Kandy Special Excise Operation Unit has brought in a massive Rs. 5.8 million to the State coffers by way of fines imposed in respect of 1,191 cases involving raids conducted during the current year.

All the raids were conducted in Central, Wayamba and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and they included 111 large scale illicit breweries, MC of the Unit R.M. Senaratne said.

These raids had resulted in the seizure of large quantity of illicit liquor worth Rs. 10 million and there were 68 women among the suspects arrested with this illicit liquor, sources said.
