British HC visits Galle

British High Commissioner Dr. Peter Hayes made an official visit to Galle on October 23. During his visit, he opened the new student hostel at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna.

The medical students' new hostel in Karapitiya has been built to replace a building in Magalle, which was washed out during the December 2004 tsunami.

This project was designed and conceived as a joint venture between MAGE (Medical Aid to Galle and Environs - a British charity) and the Medical Faculty of the Ruhuna University.

British High Commissioner Hayes said, "This hostel is an investment in the future and further strengthens the ties between the UK and Sri Lanka."

In addition, the High Commissioner visited the Kitulampitiya Orphanage, Galle National Maritime and the Kalutara Bodhiya.
