Massive road development projects will commence in the Eastern and
North Central Provinces at a cost of US$ 78 million from December 2009.
The project will be completed in four years with financial assistance of
Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project will be coordinated and supervised by the Provincial
Councils.
The agreement in connection with the above project was signed between
the Finance Ministry and representatives of the ADB recently. According
to Ministry sources, the project will cover the rehabilitation of about
370 km of roads in the North Central and Eastern Provinces.
Meanwhile, the Government has allocated Rs. 625 million for the
rehabilitation and reconstruction of local bodies in the North in 2010
which have been damaged or destroyed due to LTTE terrorism. Under these
allocations, 36 local bodies including Town Councils and Pradeshiya
Sabahas will get new buildings. |
