Gamata Karmantha creates jobs
The Government has paid special attention for Regional Industrial
Development and one of the successful projects which is being
implemented by the Industrial Development Ministry is the Gamata
Karmantha program.
Under this program the Industrial Development Ministry has approved
seven new investors to start industries.
G. S. Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd. in the Kurunegala District, N.
Chandrarathne Constructions (Pvt) Ltd. Lihini Steel (Pvt) Ltd. and
Tropical Metals (Pvt) Ltd. in the Puttalam District. J. F. Packing (Pvt)
Ltd. in Kandy District, K. B. Ice (Pvt) Ltd. in Trincomalee District and
American Water Systems (Pvt) Ltd. in Ampara District will start their
industries as they have received new investment opportunities. The total
investment of the seven new companies is Rs. 517 m and 1036 new
employment opportunities would be generated.
G. S. Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd. which intends to manufacture rebuilt
tyres in the Kurunegala Division in the Kurunegala district hopes to
invest Rs. 50 m and will provide 200 employment opportunities.
The Government has granted 55 perches to N. Chandrarathne
Constructions (Pvt) Ltd. which is expected to invest Rs. 40 m on
manufacturing cement and concrete products in the Dankotuwa Divisional
Secretariat Division in the Puttalam District. They also hope to provide
200 new jobs through this venture.
Lihini Steel (Pvt) Ltd. is expected to invest Rs. 115 m to establish
a factory which will manufacture iron needed in the building
constructions in the Wennappuwa Divisional Secretariat Division and the
Government has granted 1 1/2 acres land for this purpose and also it
will create 228 employment opportunities for the people of the area.
Tropical Metals (Pvt) Ltd. has planned to manufacture iron nails and
steel related products and it will create 225 employment opportunities
in the Dankotuwa area. The total investment for this would be Rs. 122 m.
The Government has allocated 108 perches of land for this.
J. F. Packing (Pvt) Ltd. which is planned to be established in
Kundasale in the Kandy District will invest Rs. 71 m on manufacturing
soft packaging materials and also will provide 60 employment
opportunities.
The Gamata Karmantha program is being successfully implemented by
taking forward the Mahinda Chinthanaya to strengthen the industrial
sector in Sri Lanka under the guidance of the Industrial Development
Minister Kumara Welgama. |
