Gallant display by Jaffna Combined Schools team
They were set to make up the numbers in a highly competitive
tournament but they ended as the Most Disciplined Team while leaving a
lasting impression at the Munchee Gluco Fit inter-school six a side
cricket tournament.
The Jaffna Combined Schools team may have failed to reach the
semi-finals of the tournament but they were able to create a couple of
surprises despite all their players making their very first appearance
in Colombo.
The lads from the North had a memorable tournament as they knocked
out S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and Lyceum International School
before eventually going down fighting against Richmond College Galle in
the quarter-finals.
In fact the Jaffna Combined Schools team could have even made it to
the semi-finals as they fell short by just two runs from achieving their
stiff target of 76 runs. They were cruising along at one stage following
a splendid 12 ball 34 from opener Edward Enin.
He was well supported by N. Ravateepan and Milando Jennifer as the
Jaffna Schools team maintained the required run rate almost until the
end. However the lack of experience at this level made the difference at
the end with Richmond College just managing to keep their reputation.
The Jaffna Combined Schools team, along with the Batticaloa Combined
Schools team was rewarded with cricketing gear from the Sri Lanka
Schools Cricket Association.
