Armed Forces’ sacrifices not in vain:

Even though terrorism had been defeated certain forces which preached separatism and who tried to divide the country were still at large. “We are closely monitoring the situation and to defeat this and in the struggles ahead to build a new country we shall not fear to take necessary decisions in the face of any dangers that we may face,” said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Rizana Nafeek tells Court:

First confession taken under duress, physical assault

Sri Lankan maid Rizana Nafeek, who was found guilty of the death of a Saudi infant in May 2005, told a court in Dawadmi on Sunday that her first confession was taken under duress and physical assault. Nafeek made this statement before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Abdullah Al-Rosaimi at a court in Dawadmi. The maid’s statement in court was translated by Abdul Careem, an Indian electrician who acted as an interpreter yesterday.

A US-based hedge-fund billionaire charged as part of an insider-trading case was investigated by US authorities for allegedly raising funds for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), The Wall Street Journal reported.
