Govt invests Rs 1,500 m for Jaffna projects

The Government plans to restructure the Local Government
Administration in Jaffna investing Rs.1,500 million in 359 development
projects under the Uthurau Vasanthaya development project, said Northern
Province Governor Major General G.A.Chandrasiri.
The projects had been implemented through local bodies initiated
under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s direction.
These projects were carried out under the supervision of Senior
Presidential Advisor and Northern Province Presidential Task Force
Chairman Basil Rajapaksa MP.
To educate the people about development projects in the Northern
Province, a symposium on local Government and an exhibition commenced
yesterday. It will continue till today in Jaffna, he added.
In the Jaffna peninsula and surrounding islands Chankanai,
Chavakachcheri, Delft, Jaffna, Karainagar, Karaveddy, Kayts , Kopay ,
Maruthankerny, Nallur, Pointpedro, Sandilipay, Tellipalai, Uduvil and
Velanai, there are 15 divisional secretariat regions in addition to 225
Grama Niladari Divisions. All these areas would receive ground
development coming under the Uthuru Vasanthaya concept, said Maj. Gen.

New community centres, new pre-schools and new pre-school development
facilities, public wells, development of public potable water tanks,
development of library buildings, provision of books and furniture,
development of public markets, sanitary facilities, upgrading
cemeteries, road development, furniture for local government
institutions, vehicles and machinery, computers and other basic
facilities including bus stands are forecast under the Uthuru Vasanthaya
concept, the Governor added. |
