(UPFA) is a further endorsement by the people especially the people of
the South of the leadership and policies of President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
said Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake. He made these
observations after UPFA’s massive victory at the Southern Provincial
Council polls last Saturday.
With this victory the UPFA has made a clean sweep of all the
Provincial polls held since last year having registered resounding

Western Province and Uva Province Provincial Council polls.
He said the people are educated and can no longer be hoodwinked by
the prophets of doom who attempt to paint a gloomy picture of the
economy which is strong as ever despite the global economic recession
faced by other countries. People have grown to accept the policies
envisaged in the Mahinda Chinthanaya which is being implemented to the
fullest with vast development work is being carried out.
The Hambantota port, Airport, sports stadia, express highways,
government office complexes and improvement of the network of roads
creating job opportunities and improving the income of the people are
some of the policies which have caught the inspired the people in
general, he said.
The Chief Minister said the opposition has hardly anything to offer
against this massive development work and they only offer feeble excuses
take umbrage in a very minor issues which the public hardly take any
notice.
This victory in the Southern Province polls will further strengthen
the hands of President Rajapaksa who had already done the impossible by
crushing terrorism and liberated the people from fear and terror of the
which is the biggest gift he could have given to the people, Ekanayake
