Army Tattoo from Oct. 17
The ‘Army Tattoo’ ceremony which is considered an important event at
the 60th Army celebrations will be held from October 17 to 23 between
5.30 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. at Keththarama Stadium, Colombo.
Tickets are available at the gate and also at Cargills Super Market
outlets.

The visiting Tamilnadu Parliamentary delegation is expected to visit
the hill country, and they are scheduled to be at the Grand Hotel today.
Meanwhile, the Plantation Trade Union leadership will meet the
delegation and discuss matters of mutual interest said informed sources.
Overloaded ferry kills 17 Cambodians
At least 17 people were missing and presumed drowned in Cambodia
after an overloaded ferry sank in the Mekong river, officials said on
Sunday.
The 14 women and three men were traveling to a local Buddhist temple
to watch a performance in northeastern Kratie province, about 200 km
(124 miles) from the capital Phnom Penh, when their ferry sank in a
tributary late on Saturday in strong currents.

Woman dies while participating in Katina pinkama

A woman who suffered a heart attack while participating in a Katina
pinkama ceremony was pronounced dead in admission to Anuradhapura
General hospital on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as B. Pemawathie who has a prominent
social workers at Pawakkulama area in Hidogoma.
EP librarian vacancies to be filled
The Ministry of Local Government, Eastern Province has taken measures
to fill the librarian vacancies at libraries under the purview of the
Eastern Provincial Council.
Libraries in the area have been distributed with books by
non-governmental organizations according to Chief Minister’s Secretary
N.R.Ranjani.
Water for drought-hit villagers
Measures have been taken to provide drinking water to residents
affected due to drought in the Eastern Province with the help of the
bowzers.
Under this program Kalmunai Municipal Council has provided drinking
water to many families in the area using the Municipal Council bowzers.
The residents of drought-hit Navidhanveli who were severely affected due
to non-availability of drinking water were given water.

A delegation of Members of Parliament from
Tamil Nadu are in Sri Lanka for an on-the-spot assessment of the
situation in relief centres. The ten-member delegation, led by
former Union Minister T. R. Baalu, includes MPs from the Dravida
Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK), the Congress and the Viduthalai
Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). The visit is in response to an
invitation by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The delegation
comprises DMK MPs - T. R. Baalu, Kanimozhi, T. K. S. Elangovan,
A. K. S. Vijyan, Helen Davidson, Congress MPs Sudarsana
Nachiappan, N. S. V. Chittan, J. M. Haron Rashid and K. S.
