Joint railway-bus services will be expedited

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) in collaboration with the Sri
Lanka Railways will expedite its joint railway-bus services for the
benefit of commuters islandwide under the guidance of Transport Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma .
A Railways spokesman told the Daily News a joint railway-bus service
is currently being implemented in Vavuniya railway station and Hatton
station for Jaffna bound civilians and Nallathanni bound commuters.
"We operate a joint rail-bus service from Matara station for the
benefit of commuters coming to Matara by Sagarika train," he said.
Accordingly, 11 bus services will start from the station in Matara to
Akuressa, Yatiyana, Walasmulla, Radampala, Aparekka, Dickwella,
Thelijjawila, Aththudawa, Kamburupitiya and Malimbada.
Meanwhile, the people who travel by coastal line trains up to Matara
will be facilitated by SLTB buses to complete their journey up to
Kataragama. Similarly, those who travel on the main upcountry line could
avail themselves of the connecting bus services from the Bandarawela and
Haputale railway stations to Kataragama. This coordinated service on the
main line is for the convenience of devotees travelling to Madhu church
from the Vavuniya station.
