Teachers to get salary arrears

Fulfilling a long felt need of teachers, the Education Ministry has taken initiatives to pay salary arrears and provide loan facilities for teachers.

Accordingly, the Education Ministry has allocated Rs. 170 million to pay salary arrears of teachers in National Schools while Rs. 367.6 million has been allocated to offer loan facilities, Ministry sources said.

Education Minister Susil Premajayanth has sent the allocation to Provincial Education Departments.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has requested the Finance Commission to allocate funds to pay teachers' salary arrears in Provincial Schools.

The Education Ministry will put forward the data to the Finance Ministry which will take steps to allocate money to pay the arrears. The Education Ministry allocated Rs. 13.5 million in September to provide distress loans to teachers in Provincial Schools.
