Changing Minds on women’s lives
The Women and Media Collective (WMC) Sri Lanka marks 25 years of
activism for women’s equality this year.
The exhibition titled ‘Changing Minds’ will be held at the Lionel
Wendt Art Gallery from October 8 to 11. It will showcase women’s
activism for social justice, social transformation and peace as well as
contributions to this activism by contemporary women artists and
photographers.
Women photographers whose work will be on display would be given the
opportunity to discuss the experience of photographing their subjects,
and define what they wanted to convey.
The women’s painting exhibition intends to recognize the work of ten
women artists who have come forward to support the celebration of the
25th anniversary of the WMC.
An innovative component of the four-day celebration will be a
screening of the winning entry in a short film competition that called
on people to send in one minute movie clips made with a mobile phone, on
any aspect of women’s lives and experience in Sri Lanka.
Those interested can get registered and upload their films on to a
site created by WMC from any part of Sri Lanka.
