Army-Police clash in Mannar for Peace Trophy

With the country becoming normal after the eradication of terrorism
which loomed for over 30 years, Mannar Police for the first time have
made arrangements to win the hearts and minds of the general public who
lived in fear and uncertainly, and also to build confidence among them,
for a better future which is also recognized as a part of 'Uthuru
Wasanthaya' launched by the Government.
Since football is the major and only popular game in Mannar, The
Senior Supdt. of Police-Mannar Division Jayantha Wickramasinghe and Asst
Supdt. of Police-Mannar District Laziran Assen have made arrangements to
bring Police Sports Club and Army Sports Club all the way form Colombo
to play an exhibition Football Match for the benefit of Mannar public.
The match is scheduled to be played at Mannar Stadium on October 3,
2009 and the organizers have made arrangements to award the 'Peace
Challeng Trophy' for the winners of this match. According to the
organizers a large crowd is expected on this memorable day to witness
this match. The entrance to the stadium is free of charge.
Also the organizers are expected to invite the Bishop of Mannar as
the chief guest for this match. |
