Boost for cricket at Moors SC

One of Sri Lanka's leading sports Club Moors Sports club received a tremendous boost when Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd. came forward to sponsor its cricket team to the sum of Rs. 500,000 for this year.

A.J.M. Muzammil, President of Moors Sports Club said that Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd., has already sponsored the Sri Lanka Under 15 Cricket team and this company for the first time has come forward to sponsor a leading cricket club by sponsoring the Moors Sports Club.

'It is worthy of mentioning that Rangana Herath one of the most outstanding players in the Sri Lanka Test team is captaining the Moors Sports Club, who also have Dilhara Lokuhettige, Chanaka Welagedera, Suresh Perera, Hasantha Fernando and Shantha Kalavitigoda in their ranks. Our team is being coached by the former Sri Lankan all rounder Eric Upashantha and assisted by Ruwin Peiris,' he added.

A.H.M. Azwer, Vice President of Moors Sports Club said that Cricket is a lovely game. The Moors Sports Club celebrated its centenary last year, Moors was the first cricket playing club which introduced professional cricket to Sri Lanka under the Chairmanship of A.J.M. Muzammil in 1983.

Now we have opened the gates to all who are keen to play cricket. Many great cricketers like Shabbir Asgerally, Makkin Salih, Tony Buhar, Mumtaz Yusuf, Chandika Hathurusingha, Ghulam Razick, M.E.M. Nawaz, Dr. Gamini Ambepitiya and M.A. Caffoor have played for the club.
