Army cagers triumph

Sri Lanka Army beat Dehiwela YMCA by 70 points to 52 in a Carlton Cup Open Basketball Tournament 'B' Division match played at Police Park courts.

Army was in the lead 40 points to 24 at half time.

Rasanga Dhanayake and Sahan Perera (13 points) and Roshan Wijeratne (12 points) made valuable contributions for the winners.

Niluk Fernando was the top scorer for the Dehiwela YMCA with 16 points. Kasun Chamara got 10 and Shanaka Rukshan 9 points.

Buffaloes BC defeated Old Cambrians by 77 points to 71 in a another 'B' Division game played at the same venue.

Buffaloes BC was in the lead 34 points to 23 at half time. Sakidu Wickramanayake scored 15 points for the winners. Buddhika Wijesundara bagged 14 and Purna Gunawardena 12 points. Sehan Dhanushka got 20 points for Old Cambrians and Udesh Nonis was the top scorer for Cambrians with 21 points.

'A' Division matches will be held from today.

The inaugural Carlton Cup Open Basketball Tournament organized by Carlton Sports Club and Tharunyata Hetak Organization is sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom and Solex Engineering.
