IDM Computer Studies launches educational programs

IDM launched its Edexcel accredited IDM e-Kids and Teens program. This is the first time that Edexcel has accredited a kiddies’ program. The program comprises three stages: Explorer kids (for three to eight years), Voyager Kids (for nine - 11 years), e-Teens (for 12-14 years) and finally prepare students for London O/L Computing.

On completion of each stage, a student is offered a certificate. The final certificate that one gets after completing all the three stages is a ‘Diploma in ICT Skills’. This Diploma opens the pathway to prepare students for many other Foundation Diplomas namely, Diploma in ICT, PC Assembling and Maintenance, Web Design and Development, Education Studies, Computer Networking or Business Management.

The IDM Computer Studies will launch two education programs - Foundation Diplomas leading to Degree Studies and English Edge Program.

English Edge is aimed at enhancing employability and creating global communicators.

The program is developed and designed keeping in mind the modern day learner. At the heart of the program lies a fine blend of some of the best teaching practices and state-of-the-art technology. English Edge follows the unique ‘Blended Learning’ concept, which is a judicious mix of instructor-led and computer based learning.

The main advantage of the Foundation Diplomas is that they allow students to join a three year B.Sc (Hons) Degree program only with GCE O/L results.

IDM Group of Companies Chairman Dr. Bandu Ranasinghe, members of the Board of Directors at IDM and the officials from Edexcel UK participated: Qualifications and Accreditation Director, Ms. Isabel Sutclisse, Territory Manager - India subcontinent Ms. Premila Paulraj, and Regional Development Manager Suriya Bibille.

Breast cancer awareness promoted

A series of activities to create better awareness of breast related issues has planned in October and November by Ceylinco Healthcare Centre.

Ceylinco Healthcare Centre

The campaign comprises activities that would provide women with advice and information on how to prevent or minimise complications associated with breast cancer through regular self - examination and screening that leads to early detection.

The centre will offer free medical consultation pertaining to the breast to all women who walk in to the Centre in October and November.

Senior Medical Officer at the Centre, Dr. Shyama Fernando said, “breast cancer is on the rise in Sri Lanka and around the world. One of the best ways to fight this problem is to improve awareness of the value of early detection through screening.”

She stressed the importance of women past the age of 40 undergoing mammograms as part of a routine health check.

“Breast cancer is the most frequent diagnosed cancer in women and is the leading cause of female cancer-related death. Self examination with regular mammograms can detect up to 90 percent of breast cancers,” she said.

As part of the campaign, Seylan Bank Credit Card holders who purchase breast cancer screening packages will receive a five percent discount on their credit cards, the Centre said.

The Centre will also distribute bookmarks and stickers containing guidelines on how to do self assessments of the breast.

An opportunity has been provided for women who want to make appointments with the centre for breast care consultation to do so through e-channelling.
