EU provides Rs. 300 m to build Vakarai school

Vakarai Maha Vidyalayam, the newly constructed education facility will be the "pride of the East" as the most modern and technically advanced school complex in the Batticaloa District.

This school which was destroyed by the 2004 Tsunami has now been reconstructed and stands strong as an inspiration to the students who had to overcome many challenges and hardships.

The school will be re-opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa next week. The EU granted EUR 1.88 million (around Rs. 300 million) towards the reconstruction of the school.
