Sri Lanka has a better story than is getting out to the world on matters of concern to the United Nations such as IDPs, human rights and post conflict development was the view of United Nations Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe following his meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

President questions unfair expectations of big countries

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that some powerful countries expect small countries to do what they themselves cannot do. The powerful countries grill prominent figures on their entry to such countries for hours for the safety of these countries while demanding us to take out the people in welfare camps and resettle them in their original places soon, he said.

Death threat only a piece of paper

A four line note:

The Defence Ministry says that Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu’s alleged death threat is limited to an anonymous four line typed note. However, on President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s request the Defence Secretary instructed the CID to investigate into this matter with immediate effect.
