Court extends enjoining order against SLMC

Colombo District Court yesterday extended the enjoining order that restrained Sri Lanka Muslim Congress from suspending the party membership of Deputy Minister K. Abdul Bais from the SLMC till November 10.

Colombo District Judge Sampath Wijeratne granted a long period for the next hearing when the parties pleaded for a prolonged date as there was a possibility the matter will be settled.

The enjoining order also restrained the UNP from taking action to suspend the Deputy Minister sitting in Parliament.

Plaintiff Bais filing the plaint through Attorney Athula de Silva cited 28 defendants including SLMC, its leader Rauf Hakeem, Hassan Ali, UNP and its General Secretary Tissa Attanayake as the respondents.

SLMC member and Deputy Minister K. Abdul Bais filed a plaint before the Court stating the suspension of his SLMC party membership without holding an inquiry based on a false news item was a total violation of natural justice.

Bais contested at the election under the UNP banner.
