Sarath Ranawake rendered immense service to people

Siripala de Silva said in Parliament yesterday that the late Sarath
Ranawake was an experienced politician who had rendered an immense
service to the people.
Moving the vote of condolence of Minister Sarath Ranawaka, Leader of
the House Nimal Siripala de Silva said, MP Ranawake was born in
Bulathsinhala as the eldest child of the family. He obtained his primary
education from Bulathsinghala Vidyalaya in Kalutara. Later he entered
Nalanda College for higher education.
He entered politics by joining the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) and
had a close relationship with the LSSP.
Later, he joined the UNP leaving the LSSP. Ranawake was elected to
Parliament in 1991 and 1995 and rendered a great service to the public.
He was a UNP district leader in Kalutara while being Chief Organiser
of Agalawatte.
During his political career, a large number of religious places and
libraries were set up in the area. |
