World's biggest adventure race for women

The Raid Amazones the first and single multi-sport adventure race reserved for women is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka in October this year.

This is the second time that the Raid Amazones is being held in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Tourism is involved in the facilitation of the event.

More than 250 female participants, comprising teams of three have signed up for this exceptional sporting and human adventure, to compete in disciplines such as mountain biking, trekking, orientation course, ride and run, aqua sports etc.

The adventure race will take place over six or eight days in different locations of the country that will be revealed closer to the date.

A reccee was done by the organizers in Sri Lanka this week and the locations were chosen subsequently.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Bernard Goonetilleke said, "This is indeed a proud moment for us. This is the second time that Raid Amazones is being held in Sri Lanka and we are proud that the organizers have chosen Sri Lanka as the destination for this very popular race. Through this exciting project, we will be able to showcase the beauty of Sri Lanka to the world" he said.
