Samsung Jet and Omnia II unveiled :

Sharp growth in mobile phones

The local mobile phone market has shown significant growth compared to five years ago.

Managing Director, Sala Enterprises, Chinthaka Wijewikrama said though many mobile phone industries were affected due to the global recession, Sri Lanka steadily faced it with a well-balanced economic policy. There is a healthy growth in the mobile market when compared to the mobile phone market five years ago.

With peace being established more opportunities have been opened for the mobile phone industry especially in the Northern and the Eastern provinces, he said.

Sala Enterprises is the authorized distributor for Samsung mobile phones in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Sala Enterprises with Samsung Asia (Pvt) Ltd., yesterday unveiled Samsung Jet and Omnia II, two of the latest phones for the first time in Sri Lanka.

“We provide genuine products to all our customers with an assurance of quality and service. When the gray market absorbs a bigger share of the market our sales drop eventually. For this we need Government enforcement since the gray market has become a real threat to the mobile phone industry in Sri Lanka”, he said. He said, “With new technology being introduced to the world by leading brands of mobile manufacturing companies, as an average our customers change their mobile phones after one or two years.

Most of the younger generation is keen on the latest technology that is available in mobile phones and therefore sales increased. In Sri Lanka, the Samsung brand has a market share of 10 percent and we target a market share of 30 percent by the end of 2010, Wijewikrama said. “We consider it a great honour to represent a global brand in this market, and we are confident that our capabilities will complement the brands business objectives resulting in a win-win relationship. Although we are truly a local entrepreneurial business, we have always been in the forefront introducing technological innovations to discerning customers”, he said.

The Samsung Jet maximizes the user experience due to the speedy processor and the ultra brilliant display. Omnia II delivers the total package of features and fun. It comes fully loaded with an oversized AMOLED Display, simple touch-optimized UI and an array of improved multimedia features.

Samsung mobile phones to Government servants

Samsung, the No 2 mobile phone seller in the world will bring the latest technology to Colombo at affordable prices and it would showcase a number of products to the Sri Lankan consumers, Samsung Asia Managing Director, Moon Sung - Hyun said at a function to introduce Samsung mobile phones to the Government servants at the State Trading (General) Corporation, (STC) Colombo yesterday.

He said Samsung Electronics has earned an income of Rs. 96 billion in 2008 and over 169,000 people in 69 countries around the world use their products.

This scheme was launched for the welfare of the Government servants under the Mahinda Chinthanaya.

It is the first time that a loan scheme was introduced together with a Government bank (National Savings Bank) to purchase mobile phones for Government servants.

Those who obtained the Upahara package given to the Government servants through Mobitel will get special privileges under this scheme.

The local representative of Samsung, Sala Enterprises will provide after sales services to the customers.
