Special police team to probe gang leaders’ crimes

The Police Department has deployed a special police team to ascertain the crimes committed by underworld gang leaders who were killed in a shoot-out with the STF during wee hours on Friday at Maligawatta police area.

Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka recently said that public information is of paramount importance to the Police to combat crimes and to arrest the underworld gang leaders who are a menace to the country.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also have given the green light to wipe out underworld gang leaders from the country. The Senior DIG paid tribute to the STF personnel who were involved in a massive operation on Friday morning to arrest the underworld gang leaders who were operating in the Colombo district.

Following the crossfire the underworld gang leader and two of his associates were killed.
