Vettori century a masterpiece:
Sri Lanka cruised to a two nil series triumph but
not before the visiting New Zealand team had put up a great fight
back to concede the second and final cricket Test match by 96 runs
on the fifth day at the SSC ground in Maitland Place yesterday.
Skipper Daniel Vettori and his team came close to performing a near
miracle of batting through the final day and saving the match as
they battled almost until the tea interval before surrendering for
397 runs after they were set an impossible victory target of 494
runs.

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara said that
his team had shown a great amount of character in recording a two
nil whitewash against the touring New Zealand team in the Test

Kandy stave off fierce challenge from CH and FC to win 25-19
There was no one way traffic this time as the
defending Clifford Cup champions Kandy Sports Club struggled to a 25
points (2 goals, 1 try, 2 penalties) to 19 (2 goals, 1 try) win over
a gallant CH and FC to enter the finals of the Caltex Clifford Cup
knock-out rugby tournament match played at the Nittawela Rugby
Stadium in Kandy yesterday. At half time Kandy led 19-0.
