Jana Sabha concept helping village development

There is a voice for the people in the village today and this reflects village development, said Public Administration, Home Affairs and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama.

The Minister was addressing a ceremony after opening two concreted village roads in Kandy under the Jathika Saviya, Maga Neguma master development drive.

Minister Amunugama said villagers are making decisions through the Jana Sabha at grassroots level and people's representatives will provide the funds for development. This is a salient feature of democracy, Minister Dr. Amunugama said.

He said public funds should be spent for the needs of the majority and not to serve the interests of a minority. 'Jana Sabha' is a concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and it is intended to promote this concept throughout the country.

Minister Amunugama said the international community is ready to help us as our country is taking the correct path in the development field.

The Government was able to receive the largest ever loan from the IMF. This loan will be utilised for the benefit of the people without discrimination.
