Three model social care DS divisions named

Social Services and Social Welfare Ministry will name Gampaha, Kolonnawa and Homagama Divisional Secretariat Divisions as model social care secretariat divisions for providing social welfare.

A workshop was held at the Auditorium of the Urban Development Authority, "Sethsiripaya", in Battaramulla on August 21 for the Divisional Secretaries, Social Officers including other relevant officials from these secretariat divisions, headed by the Social Services Ministry Secretary V. Jegarasasingam.

Addressing the participants of the workshop Mrs. Jegarasasingam said that the selection of these three Divisional Secretariat Divisions as model social care Divisions for providing with welfare services to the inhabitants was consequent to a directive by Minister Douglas Devananda.

Accordingly, plans are afoot for identification of the problems faced by the individuals, families and communities in these divisions and thereafter to prepare the ground for utilising the formal and informal resources within the community for sorting out the problems for uplift of the living standards of individuals, families and community, whilst resorting to measures for safeguarding the community integration.

The aim of this workshop is to upgrade the professional standard of the officials, providing with service to the people of these areas, she added.

She said by implementing this social care model program in the divisional secretariat divisions chosen in the Western Province it was envisaged to identify the problems faced by the people in the urbanised areas for providing with solutions to their problems to rid off their sufferings and pave way for leading contented life through family strengthening.

Yamuna Chithrangani, Sunil Samaraweera, Additional Secretaries to the Ministry, Wanniarachchi, Senior Asst. Secretary to the Ministry of Child Development and Women's Empowerment, H.I.D. Senadheera, Officer in Charge, Mulleriyawa Police Station, Perera, Deputy Director, Social Services, Dhammika Padukka, Deputy General Manager, Social Security Board and others also spoke.
