Mercantile swimming c'ship for President's Trophy

The third annual Mercantile Swimming championships for President's
Trophy is scheduled for October 4 at the Thurstan College Pool. The
championship organised by Thurstan College Aquatic Club along with the
Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union is considered as one of the top swimming
meets conducted for the Mercantile sector.
The Thurstan College Aquatic Club which owns its swimming pool built
by Gratien Gunewardene, an old Thurstanite is a blessing for the future
generation who is looking forward to make it to higher levels in this
sport. The championship is mainly sponsored by J.B. Decorators (Pvt)
Ltd. which too is has its head an old Thurstanite Janaka Bodaragama. He
as a swimming fan has come forward to sponsor the event to promote the
sport in the country while helping the Mercantile sector swimmers to
develop their skills by participating in this highly competitive event.
The firms interested in participating send in their entries for men
and women teams. Each competitor will be allowed to compete in three
events excluding the relays.
The winners will be decided on their timings as the whole event is
confined only to a single day. Events are to be conducted in four
different age categories for men and three categories for women.
The categories for men will be under 30, 30-39, 40-49 and over 50
years, women under 30, 30-39 and over 40 years.
The points allocated to each event to decide team championship are 5,
3 and 1 point respectively while for relays are 7, 5 and 3 respectively.
Entries for the meet should reach the 'Pool office' by 12 noon on
October 1, with entry fee for which a receipt to be collected from Raja
Weerasooriya, the event chairman. |
