Major water supply project to meet scarcity

The water supply project in Walapane which comes under the main water
supply scheme in the Nuwara Eliya district is nearing completion and
ready to serve more than 12,800 people in the area who suffered
hardships due to the scarcity of drinking water during past few years.
The main water supply source for the water supply project is the
Kurundu oya. The length of the transmission line is 2.8 km and the
distribution lines are 28 km. Three million litres of water will be
supplied per day. The total investment for the project is Rs. 532
million funded by Denmark. The project which is expected to be completed
within 30 months.
In addition to this there are many other development projects that
have been started in the Nuwara Eliya district under the supervision of
Chairman, the development committee of Nuwara Eliya, Minister, C.B.
Ratnayake. The main road from Udapussellawa to Nuwara Eliya is being
re-constructed and carpeted under the supervision of Minister C.B.
Ratnayake, to upgrade the facilities in Nuwara Eliya through
infrastructure development.
The estimated budget for the project is Rs. 256 million and the
construction is done by the Road Development Authority. The project is
to reconstruct and carpet 35 km of the main road.
