Justice Minister meets British counterpart

Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda held bilateral talks with his British counterpart, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor, Jack Straw, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice Bridget Prentice, during a short visit to the United Kingdom. Before assuming his present position, Jack Straw has held the posts of Leader of the House of Commons, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Home Secretary.

Minister Moragoda briefed his counterpart on developments in Sri Lanka as well as future plans for the Justice Ministry.

He also discussed the possibility of establishing close links with the British Ministry of Justice and exchanging of criminal justice experiences and expertise in the various spheres of law reform, access to justice, and rehabilitation, given the shared values and historical connections between the legal systems of the two countries.

Minister Moragoda also thanked the UK Government for the support already extended for his Ministry's rehabilitation work.
