Enjoining orders against UNP extended

Colombo Additional District Judge Laffar Thahir yesterday extended the enjoining orders issued against the UNP in connection with two separate plaints filed by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene.

The Court extended the orders till September 16, that restrained the UNP from suspending the party membership of Ministers. The Court also ordered the defendants to file objections on September 16.

The Ministers filed plaints before the Court claiming the defendants of this plaint had no right to take a decision to suspend their party membership from the UNP though they were so imformed by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake in letters addressed to them.

Ministers cited UNP, its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, its General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and 89 others as defendants.
