Traditional ploughing ceremony today

The traditional crop season's ploughing ceremony will be held at Chavakachcheri in Jaffna today with the participation of the Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa, Ministers and senor officials to bring under the plough paddy lands that remained fallow for several years, senior official sources in Jaffna said yesterday.

The stretch of paddy lands at Chavakachcheri was 100 acres and there were large extents of paddy land that will also be cultivated after mines laid by the LTTE were cleared.

The cultivation program under the Uthuru Vasanthaya rehabilitation and development program under the special task force headed by Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa had given high priority to agriculture and food production, sources added.
