Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G.L. Peiris will address the members of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) on the "Government strategies and future programs in promoting exports" tomorrow from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm at the Chamber auditorium.

Coconut products, leather products, travel goods and footwear had a positive export growth in the first quarters of 2008 and 2009 while the other product sectors' growth is not very much favorable. Sri Lanka's major export destination during the last year was the USA and the EU.

The global financial crisis has adversely affected Sri Lankan exports during the first half of this year. The Minister will outline the government's targets on export development and future plans and strategies for realizing those targets with diversification of markets and export products. Director General of Commerce, Department of Commerce Gomi Senadhira will make a presentation on "Bi-lateral trade agreements and how Sri Lankan exporters could be benefited by such agreements".
