NCCSL meeting
Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G.L.
Peiris will address the members of the National Chamber of Commerce of
Sri Lanka (NCCSL) on the "Government strategies and future programs in
promoting exports" tomorrow from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm at the Chamber
auditorium.
Coconut products, leather products, travel goods and footwear had a
positive export growth in the first quarters of 2008 and 2009 while the
other product sectors' growth is not very much favorable. Sri Lanka's
major export destination during the last year was the USA and the EU.
The global financial crisis has adversely affected Sri Lankan exports
during the first half of this year. The Minister will outline the
government's targets on export development and future plans and
strategies for realizing those targets with diversification of markets
and export products. Director General of Commerce, Department of
Commerce Gomi Senadhira will make a presentation on "Bi-lateral trade
agreements and how Sri Lankan exporters could be benefited by such
agreements". Deputy Director of Sri Lanka Export Development Board
Madhawa Waidyaratne will also make a presentation on "Sri Lanka exports
development board's future programs on Export Development".
