Brazil, Ecuador discuss UNASUR, Honduras
Brazil: Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and Ecuador's Fander
Falconi are scheduled to discuss bilateral and regional issues,
including the UNASUR Special Summit and the situation in Honduras.
The Ministers will also discuss prospects of the Union of South
American Nations (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador,
Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela) since Ecuador
assumed the pro tempore presidency on August 10.
A press release from the Brazilian Foreign Affairs Ministry states
that Falconi's agenda includes talking with Amorim about the UNASUR
Special Summit, to be run in Bariloche, Argentina on August 28, and the
military accord between Colombia and the United States.
This agreement will allow US troops to use seven bases in Colombian
territory, amid the neighboring nations' concern for the foreign
military presence in the region.
As regards the situation in Honduras, stage of the June 28 coup
d'Etat, Brazil and Ecuador have requested the immediate and
unconditional return to power of Constitutional President Manuel Zelaya,
as a single way to reach the democratic stability.
The strategic cooperation agenda also focuses on biotechnology,
research, transportation, and planning, among others, the source
