The Colombo National Hospital is in possession of the latest
technology to diagnose Cancer and Thalassaemia. The latest technology,
Chemiluminescence Method is now available for the public which uses two
Immunochemistry Analyzers installed at a cost of Rs.225 million, a
Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.
He said that Siemens Health Care and Services Biogenic, a private
organisation donated the two machines to the Colombo National Hospital
responding to a request by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal
Siripala De Silva.
The relevant documents were handed over to the Minister by Chairman
of Siemens Health Care and Services Biogenic, G. Sathasivam. According
to the spokesman earlier the Colombo National Hospital used RIA-Radioimmunoassay
to diagnose such diseases.
When diagnosing diseases using this method an unavoidable delay
occurred because it was not an automatic system. But the new system will
diagnose diseases quickly. The new machines can be used to diagnose
changes in hormones, detect cancer, Thalassaemia and other diseases. The
patients can obtain the service free from the Colombo National Hospital.
