E WAA LE

Exhibition of West African Art and objects of day-to-day life:

The Alliance française de Kandy is an institution which intends to build bridges between different cultures by using the French language as a vehicle.

This time the public is invited to 'travel' through the countries of Francophonie (French speaking countries) and to have a glimpse to a continent which remains mysterious and sometimes unknown: Africa. The richness and the cultural diversity of West African Countries largely influenced Sri Lankan painting: "l'art nègre" (art of black people) inspired Pablo Picasso and the cubist movement, which itself inspired Georges Keyt and other famous Sri Lankan artists...

This exhibition will display paintings, statues, masks, traditional seats and musical instruments of Burkina Faso, Chad, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

Let the African bush tam tams echo back the Kandyan drums!

The opening of E WAA LE will take place on August 28 at 6 pm with African cocktails.

The Chief-Guest will be Mrs. T. M. Modder, a Yoruba from the West Nigeria.

The exhibition will continue till September 7 from 9 am to 6 pm.
