Clifford Cup Boxing Meet from August 21

The 82nd ABA Clifford Cup Boxing Championships organized by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka will be worked off from 21st to 24th of August at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium commencing from 5.30 pm each day.

This meet is open to boxers between 17 and 34 and the age is determined on the year of birth. The boxers who have qualified to take part in any open meet before or the winners and runner up of Novices, Intermediate Boxing Meets or Stubbs Shield meets and only the winners of Junior National Boxing Meets are eligible to compete at this championships.

The meet is also open to women boxers who have completed the above requirements. There are 11 weight categories in the men and women weight categories.

As per the tournament rules a team has to enter at least 4 or more competitors to be eligible to enter as the meet is considered as a team event.

The preliminary weigh in and medical examination will be held on all days between 8.00am to 9.00 am.

The Last year Champions and the runners up Army A and B teams will make a strong bid to retain the Championship while, last year runner up, Slimline, Air Force and Navy teams will certainly attempt their best to challenge the favourites.

The other teams vying for honours are Unichella, KDBA, Police BC, Seevali BC, Vidyaratha BC, MAS Southern, Kingswood BC and Silverline BC.
