Alleged attack on SLIIT student:

SSP’s wife remanded

The Crime Division conducting investigations into the alleged assault on Malabe SLIIT student Nipuna Ramanayake yesterday produced Shyama Priyadharshini Perera, wife of former CCD Director Senior SP Vaas Gunawardena, before Kaduwela Additional District Judge Mahanil Prasantha de Silva and remanded till August 31.

More troops to accelerate de-mining

The Sri Lanka Army will deploy more engineering troops to accelerate de-mining process in the Northern province to speed up the resettlement of displaced civilians now living in the welfare villages, Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya said yesterday.
