Indonesia's Susilo enacted President
INDONESIA: Indonesian electoral commission, the General Election
Commission (KPU), enacted here yesterday the winning of the incumbent
president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his pairing Boediono in the 2009
presidential election and issued a particular legal basis to strengthen
their victory.
"After studying the result of manual count, we learned that Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono pairing won more than 50 percent votes
nationwide, or equals to more than 20 percent in each of the country's
33 provinces, we enacted that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his pairing
Boediono were the winner of the 2009 presidential election," the KPU
Chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary said in a plenary session held in the KPU
office here. Abdul said that Susilo and his pairing obtained more than
73 million votes or equals to 60.80 percent from a total of 127 million
votes in July 8 election nationwide counted by the KPU.
In the occasion that was not attended by any of the presidential
candidates, the KPU issued its particular law that enacts the winning of
Susilo and his pairing, Boediono.
Copies of the law were handed over to the heads of People's
Consultative Assembly (MPR), Constitution Commission (MK) and
representatives of political parties took part in the elections. The
sworn-in of Susilo to commence his second presidency term is slated for
October 20.
The MK turned down Susilo's rivals the challenge to hold a re-
election for alleged structured and massive fraud committed by the KPU
that benefited Susilo's pairing in the July 8 election.
Even though admitting that minor violations were persisted in the
election conduction, the MK said that their complaint could not be
proved and were based and merely assumption.
