SSP’s son remanded

Nugegoda Magistrate Wasantha Jinadasa who inspected, the condition of Ravindu Gunawardena, son of Senior SP Vaas Gunawardena, at the Colombo South Hospital on a directive of Kaduwela Additional District Judge Mahanil Prasanth de Silva, remanded him till August 31.

PM assures action against errant police officers

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka told Parliament yesterday that the Government has no intention whatsoever to defend police officers connected to the assassination of two youth in Angulana and the assault on a Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) student.

Hidden LTTE arsenal unearthed

Security Forces continuing operations to uncover remaining LTTE war material have recovered 135,000 pieces of 5.54X39mm ammunition and a cache of arms and explosives from liberated areas in the North. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said troops of the 57 division conducting search operations in Vishvamadu area on Monday afternoon found 110 RPG HE rounds, 149 RPG HE rounds, five 60mm mortar bombs and five claymore mines.
